Bio
Hailing from the North East, Matt began his Albion adventure in the U16s level over the 2023/24 season.
Signing as a first-year scholar that following summer, Crowther immediately went out with the Under-21s group for the 24/25 pre-season in Slovenia - gaining early exposure to the quality he'd need to reach that level in the future.
A towering presence, Matt is a left-footed central midfielder with the capability to play box-to-box down the middle of the field. His playing style is always progressive while always offering support to team-mates to get on the ball and keep play ticking over. And after impressing the coaching staff in the PL2 team, Crowther played a lot of football there over the 24/25 campaign.
With just shy of 10 appearances in the 21s that term, Matt was a standout at his own age level in the U18s. At 6ft 3in, Matt is a dominating presence in the middle of the park and he used that, as well as his dogged determination when progressing with the ball, to his advantage during the 24/25 FA Youth Cup run.
Crowther was involved in the three triumphs which took him and his team-mates to the quarter-finals of the competition, and positive impressions at both age groups were more than enough to earn him the club's Academy Player of the Year award that season.
It was a great achievement, especially with his first full season at The Hawthorns coinciding with him moving away from his roots in Sunderland for the first time at the age of 16.
The accolades didn't stop there, either, with Crowther penning a professional contract with the Baggies in April 2025 until 2027, and with a prestigious award - coupled with an extended deal - to show for his commitment and potential, Matt will be confident of achieving his goals during his next steps as a full-time professional.
