New Albion signing Toby Collyer believes Ryan Mason is a boss who can “get the best” out of him as a player.
The 21-year-old joined the Baggies on a season-long loan from Manchester United on Friday afternoon – his first senior move away from Old Trafford.
Collyer, who made 13 first-team appearances for the Red Devils in 2024/25 across a number of different competitions, revealed a call with Mason while he was away on pre-season tour with his parent club had a huge impact on his decision to head to The Hawthorns.
The young midfielder said: “It’s great to be here and I can’t wait to get going now the deal has been finalised.
“I first heard about Albion’s interest a couple of weeks ago. I was away on pre-season tour with Manchester United in Chicago and I jumped on a call with the gaffer Ryan Mason. I got a really good first impression and it was one of the main factors for me joining.
“We spoke about how I can help the team and how he can help me. This seems like the right place and the right environment for me.
“I feel like he is someone who can get the best out of me and I feel like I can help his team on the pitch.

“I’ve been really keen to get out on loan. I think it’s an important step and one that I needed. It’s important for me to try and play as much football as possible and to help the team as much as I can.
“The experiences I had in the senior side at Manchester United last season were really good and they’ve put me in a great position to come here now having had a taste of the senior environment.
“This is the right step and a great opportunity to take my game to the next level.
“I’m excited to meet my new team-mates, work as hard as I can every single day and show the supporters what I’m all about as soon as possible.”
